The worship service is our opportunity to come together to adore, celebrate, and remember again the glory of God and His unfathomable story of redemption of which we are privileged to be a part. As such it is
1) God-centered: Though there is real joy and benefit received when we do that for which we were created, worship is not first and foremost about us. It’s about God. So we don’t sing and participate in worship to get some “spiritual high” or warm fuzzy feelings. We come with the intent to direct our praise and gratitude to God in the name of Jesus Christ and through His Holy Spirit.
2) Content-driven: Though the expression of our worship comes out in various styles and means, we are not style-driven. We aim for content that most excellently expresses the adoration of our hearts. This could be an ancient hymn of praise, a contemporary chorus that cries out for God’s grace, a corporate prayer of confession and repentance, a creed that celebrates the hope we have in Christ’s resurrection.
3) Genuine: Worship is nothing if it is just rituals and motions. We want our songs, our prayers, our attempts to listen to be very personal and genuine. We hope no one ever feels “disconnected” in our worship services
(4) Corporate: Worship is something we do privately and also corporately. Sunday is that time when we come together to worship as a body. So we want our worship to express the full range of diversity within our church family.
A note about our sermons: For the most part, we preach expositionally, meaning our goal is not simply to address a specific or need, but to hear from God’s word as He has given it to us in the Bible. So each week, we focus on one particular passage and try to understand as best we can what’s being communicated. Of course, we aim to make this very personal. We don’t just explain the passage, we explore how it challenges, encourages, and applies to the very personal situations in which we live. We want everyone to come away from the hearing of God’s word with real nourishment that enriches our lives throughout the week.
